New Napa: Texas Tuscany
Discover romance and more in Texas Wine Country.BY WHITNEY BUTLER Nothing says romance like a great bed and breakfast, and Fredericksburg, Texas, seems to have one on every corner, above every store on main street and betwixt the personal residence of friendly locals. There’s something about the intimate bed space inside old cottages or studio-style bungalows that’s particularly alluring when just passing through—a place to look through the eyes of another in a town where no one knows your name. It is often the road less traveled that surprises people the most. And planning a romantic getaway most certainly begins with surprise.
Sparking a toast, Texas boasts one of the fastest growing wine industries in the county.
Today there are more than 300 wineries producing Texas wine, which reflect many of the same complex flavors found in the Mediterranean or other vines that grow at this longitude. Fredericksburg is home to dozens of tasting rooms and several very large wineries off the famous 290 Wine Road.
